Anyone who hears the word ‘heath’ naturally assumes that we’re talking about physical health. However, being healthy encompasses so much more. According to the World Health Organization, Health is defined as, ‘A state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.’

CrossFit is a way of life. It’s an entire lifestyle that is focused not only on the physical aspect of fitness, but mental and social as well. If you’ve chosen to join a box and decided to transform into a healthier, better version of yourself, you have to go all the way. You can’t half-ass it, and you cannot think that you can keep with your lazy and bad eating ways and still call yourself a CrossFitter.

Luckily for you, people like us at Roanoke Valley CrossFit, are here to help, guide, and educate you about CrossFit training and lifestyle.

We always say it’s great to learn from others around you - the good and the bad. You can consider adopting the good habits and make them a part of your own transition. The bad habits serve as a lesson and warning.

Here are a few healthy habits of our healthiest CrossFitters:

Variety is the Spice of Life

People say it, so why not apply it? Fitness regimens, if tedious or too difficult, can be boring. Instead of motivating you to work more and harder, they just make you want to give it all up. With the vast number of options available, you can actually have fun with your fitness. Try something new and exhilarating. Switch things up and make it interesting for you. When you find yourself sinking into a rut, try something new that you’ve never tried before. Step out of that comfort zone and you’d be surprised at just how much you can accomplish.

The internet and Smartphone life has pretty much over-shadowed every kind of actual human and social interaction. With CrossFit we try and encourage everyone to make connections with those they work out with. Coaches and fellow CrossFitters socialize within your box, have a laugh, have healthy competitions, challenge and motivate each other. Trust us, you’ll notice a change within yourself quicker and faster than you imagined.

Eat Well and Eat Right

Everyone will tell you that fat is your biggest enemy. Let us tell you, it’s processed food. Sugar is the product of Sugar-Cane; treated and refined to the state we see it in. While no one will ever say anything about drinking natural sugar-cane juice, which is actually healthy for you, you’re bound to hear all sorts of things about sugar.

Sugar has all kinds of detrimental effects on hormones, moods, immunity, and most of all on your weight. Cut that out and you’ll be adding years to your life. Natural is always good, right? So, organic veggies, fresh fruits, fish oils; these things are healthy even in slight excess. Binge eating fruit won’t hurt you as much as binge eating sugar and candy will.

Everything in Moderation

While CrossFit is mostly about physical activity and getting moving, there’s something to be said about adequate rest. Get a good 8 hours of sleep, take rest days, and exercise at a consistent pace in a set routine maybe 3-4 times a week. Over-doing anything will have negative consequences. Keep everything in moderation.
