CrossFit Kids is a method for teaching Greg Glassman’s CrossFit to children of all ages. Based on the principles of Mechanics, Consistency, and then Intensity, CrossFit Kids emphasizes good movement throughout childhood and adolescence. Consistently good mechanics translates to physical literacy, enhanced sports performance, and fewer sports injuries for kids. In addition, a vast body of research indicates that exercise is beneficial to cognitive function, which means consistent adherence to the program can have a positive impact on children’s academic achievement. CrossFit Kids is meant to be BIG fun for all ages. Broad-Inclusive-General (BIG) fun… which means we provide an active alternative to sedentary pursuits. This results in less childhood obesity and improved all-around health for our children. Because the needs of a second graders and high school varsity wrestlers differ by degree and not kind, the program is scalable for any age or experience level and accounts for the varied maturation status one can find in a class full of kids. **Content provided by kids.crossfit.com

RVCF CrossFit Kids   (Ages 4-7)   Wednesdays 4:15 - 4:45pm

RVCF Advanced Kids (Ages 8-12)   Tuesdays/Thursdays 11:00 - 11:45am
RVCF CrossFit Teens (Ages 12 & up)  Tuesdays/Thursdays 10:00am - 10:45am

Teen class will focus on the basics of CrossFit to build strength in functional movement. We will work with teens to sit down(squat), pick things up (deadlift), and put things overhead (press) safely and correctly.  Each of the movements performed in CrossFit are “core to extremity”, so we work with our athletes to not only strengthen but learn to utilize their core in everything they do.  Aside from this core strengthening aspect we will perform body weight exercises.  Athletes will work on techniques to improve pull-ups, pushups, hand stand holds, burpees, air squats, box jumps, lunges, doubleunders (jump rope), and rope climbs.  All of these will work together to provide a better overall level of fitness in each athlete.  Everything we do should benefit the explosiveness, the level of intensity that can be maintained, and a quicker recovery time for each athlete while strengthening the entire body and not just a specific muscle group.  To summarize, our intent is to improve overall strength alongside short intense metabolic workouts.
Teen class is offered seasonally as demand dictates.
